MONGOLIA
If you’re looking for an authentic experience in one of the least populated countries in the world, then Mongolia is the destination for you.
It’s considered the sanctuary of the Taimen (Hucho taimen) fishing, but also for other species such Lenok, a salmonid that only inhabits some of the Central Asian and Siberian waters.
In the Darkhad valley, at Hövsgöl province, located in the northwest side of the country, we will find these two other species, as well as the famous Grayling. The species which we will discover here is a much more aggressive version than its European counterparts, which makes its fishing much more fun.
To reach this area from the capital Ulaanbaatar, we will go on a regional flight to Mörön: regular or charter flight, depending on the group’s necessities.
A camp by the river´s shore will be our base of operations during the whole fishing trip. It is located 250 km north from Mörön and it will take us around 7 hours to get us there by 4×4 cars.
The camp has wooden cabins with double rooms; a main cabin where the meals will be served; and a cabin with a toilet and shower with hot water, something that is not that easy to find in other camps all over Mongolia.
The fishing journey will take in multiple rivers, such as Shishged, Tengis, Uur or Hog, always with the helping hand of one of our local guides and we will be using some boats in specific areas.
This could be the perfect chance for all of you who haven’t been to Mongolia before. And not just because of the variety of species you will find in its rivers, but because of how authentic and special this country is: even nowadays there are still families that live as nomadic herders.
